[texasfilk-discuss] ConSortium report

A bit delayed, yes. There is also the problem that it's a bit hard to
judge what next year's con will be like by this year's event, seeing as
how the hotel chose the weekend of the con to rip the lobby and parking
lot out and build new ones...

This is truly a con to be immortalized in song (I'm working on that).
The lobby was cordoned off with plywood, leaving single-file walkways to
get to the con areas at the back. Apparently many of the no-shows simply
took one look at the hotel from the freeway and assumed it was closed
(there is precedent for that, alas). There was the fire alarm that went
off all weekend because a workman cut a cable; there was the fact that
there *were no stairs* connecting the ground floor to the event rooms on
the second (the fire stairs let out *outside* on the ground floor; the
stairs in the lobby were being poured while we were there), which in
turn led to one of the two, count 'em, two elevators being out most of
the weekend; I am told (I was staying at a friend's house) that the hot
water wasn't and that the workmen were up bright and early Sunday with
their jackhammers...

Oh, yes, and apparently they were initially planning to demolish the
dealer's room while the dealers were still in it. This, fortunately, was averted.

Filks were held Friday and Saturday nights; since I worked Friday night
I was only able to make Saturday nights, at which there were ten or
twelve people all told and from four to six at any one time. I wrote
down names and have, naturally, since misplaced the notebook. J-Mag was
there, I know, and Celine -- could you two help me with names, please?
I'm especially trying to remember who it was who had been on the Midwest
circuit before she moved to Houston a few years ago. Also, how did the
Friday filk go?

(Part of why I'm asking is that I'd like when the info is more complete
to post this as a con report to our website and also to r.m.f...)

Mike, the art show looked pretty good, considering; again, it's hard to
judge under the circumstances how you would do at a future ConSortium by
way of commissions.
