I'd prefer it rephrased as "if anyone makes money off of my effort, at
least some of it should go to me," otherwise it sounds as though you'd
have singers who weren't songwriters turning over all of their profits
to the songwriters.

But that opens up the whole can of worms on the topic of "who is worthy
of how much?" Does it change for bad singers of really good songs versus
wonderful singers performing bad songs? And who decides in that case?
