So focus on the (quite good, and classic) music, not the silly lyrics. Actually, what I'd _like_ to do with it as a performance piece is start with the original lyric, Aleluia, then switch into the Star Wars version for the round, catching the audience by surprise... then possibly have the first two voices go back to Aleluia on their final (fractional) time through. But we need to get a bit more comfortable with it first. > Is there any way we could practice sometime during the filking on Friday > night -- go off for a half hour or say two twenty minute segments during the > filking, rather than waiting until Saturday? Not a bad thought. We'll all be together and singing anyway... > As for other stuff -- I know nothing about Long Wing Feathers I don't think we'd have it ready in time. I've got a recording of the basic version that I could play for folks. It originated as an Arapahoe chant, and was translated into English and simplified a bit. Basically, it's a minor round in three parts and three voices -- the first part sings the melody starting from the tonic, the second part comes in a minor third above, and the third part comes in on the fifth. I've got a set of filk lyrics for it -- just one changed phrase per verse; they could even be done flip-chart style -- which I've led as a simple call-and-response, but which have never had a full three-part performance. They might need editing; they might get too muddy... but sometime, I'd really like to make the attempt and find out whether I can get this bird off the ground or not. > Ballad of Gordy Dickson is -really- simple (or at least, -I've- known it for > literally 29 years.... ) That it is. I've never found a harmony I like for it, but maybe that's just because I've never made the effort... -- ------------------------------------------------------ Joe Kesselman, http://www.lovesong.com/people/keshlam/ Appearing February 10 at Walkabout: Pete Seeger and Tao Rodrigues -- order in advance! http://www.WalkaboutClearwater.org/coffeehouse.html
