This message was posted by Gwen Knighton to rec.music.filk and some filk related mailing lists. Please distribute it to any mailing lists you think might be interested in this CD project. ---Beginning of Gwen's Message--- In April, I gave a concert in Conyers, GA at a little place called The Java House. And a friend of mine showed up with a portable MP3 rig and recorded the whole thing. I'm going to be releasing the good bits, including some previously unreleased stuff and some stuff that's not likely to ever make it onto a solo CD or a Three Weird Sisters CD, as a live CD. This is a benefit project. Some of you know that I've had a series of bad luck and unfortunate circumstances over the past two years. My aim is to put food on my table. I'm also trying to raise enough money so that I can either stay in Atlanta long enough to find a way to stay here permanently or finance my move elsewhere-- and that needs to happen pretty soon. I am very pleased with the quality of the recording-- Rob Shoenborn does good work. This really is your chance to share in the intimate energy of a live, solo performance from me. What's on Java Sutra: We're just finalizing the track listing for the CD now, but I promise you at least an hour of intimate performances, real live stage banter, and one song that was so new the bridge wasn't even complete yet-- this CD contains the first-ever performance of Dancer (those of you who heard it at Balticon will notice some differences). Yes, there is a murder ballad on the CD, as well as an abduction ballad. Let me stress again that this is a benefit project, not an official commercial release. It has all the charm and gotchas of a live performance, stage banter and mistakes and heckling have been left in, and there is not a single studio-perfect performance on this recording. Several people had to listen to it in addition to me before I could even begin choosing tracks (did I mention I'm a perfectionist?). Each CD will be signed and numbered for that smooth, "limited edition" feel. What's not on Java Sutra: It's all originals and traditional stuff. There are no copyrighted covers. Also, nothing that's going on the upcoming Three Weird Sisters CD Hair Of The Frog will be on this CD. There's no fancy artwork, no frills, no expensive four-color printing: just an intimate performance with all the ambiance left in. How to get your copy: We're going to start shipping this limited edition next week, and orders will only be taken through the Labor Day weekend, the weekend of WorldCon if you want to go by Con Time. I tend to think it's a little tacky to put blatant ordering information for stuff on a newsgroup, but http://www.harpetrator.com/javasutra.html has all the information you need to order the CD.
