I have to admit that at the moment I am not at all sure who of the German filkers / if anyone at all will be there. I have read in several mails (mostly from Rafe) that in 1995 there had been "so many filkers from Germany" present. Now ... I'm kinda flattered that we seem to have made such an impression back then, but also very stumped - because in fact the participants from Germany back in 1995 were only Yooh, Kirstin, her then-boyfriend Cevin, and me. That was *it*. Noone else. German filk fandom and the German fandom group that attends Worldcon have never overlapped very much - a large group of the German filkers have their roots in fantasy / LARP / SCA fandom and not in general SF fandom. So - basically, it has always been just Kirstin, my ex Robert (who used to be our first "filk dealer") and then Yooh and me who really mostly came along for the filk. It still is like that to me. Worldcon per se isn't THAT interesting to me (and I honestly have to say that I hated the Glasgow location, the having to drive around late at night with the shuttle busses and the guitar since the con locations aren't in walking distance to each other ...), the filk track bit of it and the people *are* (which is why I spent ALL my worldcon time in 1995 with the filkers) - but right now, money is the reason why I cannot definitely say yet that I will be there even though it is not only Worldcon but also Eurocon. Largest reason is the still-unknown hotel prices (which unfortunately tend to be much higher in the UK than in the US), the fact that a flight to Glasgow from my home airport Hamburg is much more expensive than one to London ... i.e. overall I could possibly almost attend a US worldcon for the same money. It will depend on other plans that year, how many trips I can do etc.pp. Would I *like* to be there? Yes. I'd love to spend time with the filkers at Worldcon, and IF I make it there you can definitely grab me and make me run around and work for the filk track, also spontaneously, I can say that right here and now. BUT I cannot promise anything yet. This mostly hasn't anything to do with FilkCONtinental being only very shortly after that, since most of our FC work will be done before Worldcon, and then it starts only up in September anyway. Otoh ... I could recommend everyone to come to FC in 2005 ... it *will* be worth it ... but I digress. Nope, it's a personal matter. Of course, those can change, too, life is full of changes :) All this blurb --> a definite "only maybe" from my side. Sorry!
