All we are looking for at the moment is somebody, anybody, to be a liaison.
We've produced nobody. He's using the phrase 'press gang' because it's
getting to the point where we do need somebody.

Why on earth should he? Why should he bother? Why should he and the
committee allocate considerable resources - a reasonably large room during
the day and more rooms at night - from their limited resources for a bunch
of people who will do *nothing* for themselves? Who will show no commitment
whatever that they will actually use those resources? Who have not been
able after all this time to find one single person who will be willing to
act as liaison with the committee? It is far simpler from their point of
view to say "Tough luck". Instantly saves them time and resources at zero
cost to themselves.
We are very small fish to a WorldCon committee. If we can't be bothered to
do a minimal amount of work for our own advantage, what possible reason do
they have to do anything to help us out?

There's a database of names on the site but it's not easily searchable
unless you know what you're looking for. And I would expect that many
filkers are waiting to find out if there will be a filk programme before
they decide whether to go.
