Mark, the short answer is that I'm making copious use of grace notes, but
you're quite correct in many of your comments.  Edited version
forthcoming.

Another question for everyone-- does it hang together?  I worote it over a
period of about 13 hours, with frequent interruptions, so that was one of
my worries.
