---
Since the only way I'll probably get to one of these housefilks in the near
future is to have one at my place, I'd like to host the September housefilk.
Hope to see you all there!
-Amanda
When:
Saturday, September 27th, 5 pm - ??
Where:
Amanda's place at
1622 Central Ave
Wilmette, IL
We're the house with the monstrous sculpted bushes on the opposite side of the
street from the parking side.
Contacting me:
email me at misterfive@rocketmail.com
(my other addresses are having difficulties at the moment)
call me at 847-251-9062
Chair info:
We have about 5 guitar friendly chairs, and 6-7 other seats. I have no idea how
many folks might show up- a very large group may end up leaving us chair
challenged. I've never been to one with a group that large, so I'm not
expecting problems. If you know that a large group of you are coming
together, however, please contact me ahead of time so I can borrow some chairs,
or send out a "please bring a few chairs" notice. Or toss a couple of folding
chairs in the trunk of your car just in case if you have them.
Food and Drink:
There is a Thai take-out place nearby that delivers, and of course there's
always pizza. Or we could do a run to one of the restaurants near the train
station, or up at Old Orchard mall or something like that. I'll have some
sodas, snacks etc on hand, but I'm anti-diet soda, so if that's all you drink
you may want to bring your own.
Allergy alerts:
We do have a cat. We also have two young kids, and a "no smoking in the house"
policy.
How to get there:
>From the south-
Take I-94 West to the Lake Ave exit (eastbound, exit 34C according to
Mapquest), the first exit after Old Orchard. You should pass a shopping plaza
with a Borders as soon as you turn off. After you have either sucessfully or
unsuccessfully resisted the urge to stop and buy books, continue east on Lake.
After crossing Ridge Ave (just under 2 miles from the I-94 exit), turn right
onto 17th St. Make a left onto Central Ave (about 4 blocks from Lake) and find
a place to park on the street.
>From the north-
Take I-94 E and/or Rt 41 S to the Skokie Rd/Rt 41 South exit (34 A according to
Mapquest). You should pass a shopping plaza with a Borders as soon as you exit.
After you have either sucessfully or unsuccessfully resisted the urge to stop
and buy books, turn left (east) onto Lake Ave. After crossing Ridge Ave (just
under 2 miles from the I94 exit), turn right onto 17th St. Make a left onto
Central Ave (about 4 blocks from Lake) and find a place to park on the street.
Construction warning for Mapquest-like users coming from other directions:
Map programs may try to send you down Glenview Rd. Glenview Rd is currently one
way, and you can't go down it to 17th St from the various highways to the west
of us. To detour: Turn down Old Glenview Rd (south of Glenview) and keep going
until it ends. Turn right onto Wilmette Ave, left on 17th, and right onto
Central.
Public Transport:
Metra
We're about 4 blocks (10-15 minute walk) from the Metra Union Pacific North
line, Wilmette stop. After getting off the train, go to the south end of the
station and cross Green Bay Rd (toward the Premier Bank building). Head up
Central Ave until you hit McKenzie Elementary school. Go around the school (if
there's construction, head to the right and go up Highland Ave one block, then
back to Central) and continue up Central for a block and half. Metra schedule
is available at http://metrarail.com/Sched/cnw_n/cnwn.html The weekend schedule
is kind of sparse, unfortunately, with an hour or two between trains.
CTA/Pace Bus
We're a couple of miles from the Linden L stop on the purple line. There are
buses from there, but I don't know what the weekend schedule is like. If you
really want to try coming by L, contact me for more details or check out
http://www.pacebus.com and look at Pace routes 422 (Wilmette Ave) and 423 (Lake
Ave).
If you are coming from Evanston or points north near Green Bay Rd, Pace bus 213
takes you to the Wilmette Metra stop. Following walking instructions above.
