A bit about our performers:
KELLIE LIN KNOTT
Kellie Lin Knott got her feet wet as an eight year old back up vocalist with
her father's top-forty bar band. More than a decade later, Kellie Lin is
still making music.
Her official performance career was born of an attempt to raise awareness and
funds for advocates of non-violence through booking her acoustic duo, ‘Those
Two Girls‘, into area coffee houses, schools and special events. Those
efforts were rewarded in 1996 when she became a recipient of the Minnesota
Peace Prize.
Notable performances have included benefits for the National Leukemia
Society, The Minnesota Health Department's Non-Violence Initiative, the MS
Walkathon, Stop the Violence Day at the Minnesota Metrodome, Boston's Encore
Gala, showcases for the Folk Alliance and Just Plain Folks, Duluth's
Songwriters in the Round with Bill Isles, The Mud Creek Folk Festival in
Rockford, IL, The Grand Marais Music & Arts Festival in MI, Mama Gaia's
Songwriter's Series and appearances at the legendary Club Passim in
Cambridge, MA. Kellie Lin has also been featured (with Propinquity) on
Minnesota's KARE 11 television.
As a songwriter, Kellie has been most heavily influenced by storytellers,
such as Mary-Chapin Carpenter, Susan Werner, and Nanci Griffith. With musical
roots that include everything from jazz and cabaret to bluegrass and pop,
Kellie's shows are an eclectic set of melodic, groove driven acoustic
originals. Her performances are intimate, energetic, and often times highly
interactive.
VICTORIA DAVITT
Wisconsin born singer/songwriter Victoria Davitt wrote her first song at age
ten. Early influences included Madonna and Cyndi Lauper. The influences of
Juliana Hatfield and Liz Phair became apparent when Victoria taught herself
the guitar and joined the movement of female guitar folk/rockers. In 1997,
while studying at Boston's Berklee College of Music, she began to define her
own style which some would say is a mix of Joni Mitchell, Sheryl Crow, and
Martin Sexton.
In August 2000, after receiving a degree in songwriting, Victoria relocated
to Nashville, TN, and remained quite active in the professional music scene
until May 2001, when she got the itch to travel. That summer, she toured
western Europe for 3 months, playing acoustic shows in Rome, Venice (Italy)
and London (UK). In July 2002, she returned to her home state for a 6 week
tour, followed by 2 months in France to write, record, and perform.
Victoria is currently living in Green Bay, WI where she continues to perform
and record her music. She has had airplay on WAPL's "Homegrown" show, live
radio interviews, and numerous appearances on WLUK Fox TV11.
Kellie is thrilled to have Victoria Davitt touring with her this month. Of
their collaboration, Kellie tells us; "Victoria and I are hard at work,
learning each other's songs, and are looking forward to a highly interactive
and energetic exchange during these 18 shows. Those of you who heard Victoria
and I in our duo show debut last year in Madison, WI know what a treat this
woman is. Soaring soprano vocals, concise lyrics, and solid musicianship!
Aren't you glad she's back from her songwriting/recording adventures in
London to share the stage with me? I certainly am. Check out her new CD,
STILL. You'll be glad you did!"
Quite a recommendation from an artists who’s own reviews are glowing...
"Truly a star in the making. Her creative, entertaining patter was some of
the best I've heard..."
Wendy Vickers, Local Blend Newsletter
"...material draws from keen observation and personal experience held against
of prism of insight and com-passion. Her guitar playing illuminates
far-ranging interests in jazz, folk, bluegrass and pop, yet never betrays her
individual style while her voice commands authority with rich comforting
tones and lyrics full of wisdom."
John Noyd, Maximum Ink Music Magazine
"...one of the most confident performers I've seen in years and rightly so.
Her powerful voice soars effortlessly carrying her from crooning chanteuse to
sultry vixen. Combine that with unbelievable guitar chops and expect your
eyes to be glued to the stage. It's obvious she loves what she's doing, and
you will too."
Stolie, Screaming Galaxy Records Chicago

or better yet, see her live, at ‘Barb’s Basement’, where her enthusiastic
presence can be witnessed firsthand.
