A Little Something About Our Performer: Peggy O’Neill
Mix together
driving visions and hopeful dreams
toss in a bit of Blues, Jazz and Contemporary folk
and get something wonderful.
Peggy is able to bring this recipe together with
a beautiful voice
and a lot of heart.
Peggy O’Neill, nominated for 1996 "Female Vocalist of the Year" by the
Minnesota Music Academy, has come into full bloom. Like many folk artists,
she had her start playing for friends at small gatherings. Encouraged by the
response to her music she began playing at Coffeehouses and within a short
time moved up to be a regular performer. She has been the opener for such
acts as Armour & Sturtevant, Dar Williams and Spider John Koerner. In 2001,
she performed at the Minnesota Folk Festival Workshops taking the place of
Vance Gilbert. Currently Peggy has been focusing her energy into playing
benefit concerts and bringing her music into Canada and across the Midwest
here in the United States.
Ms. O’Neill had the pleasure of being interviewed by both Pam K of "Stone
Soup" and Ellen Hayman of "Mostly Folk" and her song "Love, Lust &
Frustration" found it’s way onto the airwaves via KFAI radio. Another, "Go
Away" - a piece dedicated to guys she shouldn’t have dated - was done as a
cover by Canada’s Dandelion Wine for their 1994 CD, "Cheap Hooch."
As well as performing, Peggy has remained active in promoting folk music.
Serving on the board of the Folk Alliance Region Midwest, she ran two
successful conferences and continues to make herself available in the
capacity of consultant and advisor on further Folk Alliance Gatherings.
We’re very pleased that Peggy’s tour is bringing her through Milwaukee and
are greatly honored that she can be with us this week. Come join us on
Thursday evening when we proudly present the musical artistry of Ms. Peggy
O’Neill.
