Although I'll bet very few other people know Eileen's music, I'd urge anyone
free that night to consider attending.
(Were I not completely penniless paying for the space album's final month of
production, I'd be buying out an entire row of seats and inviting people!
Personally speaking, she's probably my favorite singer/songwriter in the
world.)
She used to be in the Wail Songs catalog, and a bunch of her songs have
shown up at filks, including "Isabella Gunn" and "Windego's Coming", and
many of her others like "Medusa" would almost certainly be if they'd been
heard.

Subject: Eileen McGann 3/16 Berkeley House Concert
Hi All,
On Sunday, March 16 (7:30PM), Eileen McGann, accompanied by David K, will be
returning to perform a house concert at my house in Berkeley! It's been 3
years since Eileen and David were last here, and we've all missed them...
Eileen is one of Canada's finest traditional (Scottish/Irish) singers and
singer/songwriters, and it's awesome to get her back here once again! I've
long been in love with Eileen's singing...

EILEEN McGANN,
Canadian singer/songwriter & singer of traditional (Celtic) songs,
will be performing at
a House Concert
in BERKELEY
on Sunday, March 16th
at 7:30PM
First Bay Area appearance in 3 years of one of Canada’s finest songwriters
and voices of traditional & contemporary song! Accompanied by David K on
vocals, guitar, bouzouki, & more!
Eileen McGann is one of North America's finest contemporary songwriters,
with a singing voice that has been described as "magnificent", "stunning"
and "hauntingly beautiful". As if that weren't enough, she has also been
called "one of the best traditional singers this side of Kerry". Eileen's 5
solo albums and her album with the group Trilogy (Eileen and David are 2/3
of Trilogy) have all received rave reviews. Eileen’s most recent solo
album, “Beyond the Storm,” was a 2002 JUNO award nominee for Best Roots &
Traditional Album.
Eileen is a dynamic and engaging performer who presents her songs with a
humor, passion and energy that demands and holds audience attention. Her
live performances have been featured on national radio programs in Britain,
Canada and the US, including CBC’s Morningside and Gabereau, NPR's Mountain
Stage, and River City Folk; and numerous BBC broadcasts. She has performed
at major folk festivals across Canada, Great Britain, and the eastern US.
______________
“What is it about women singers on the other side of the pond that makes
them find something fresh in our traditional songs? ...Eileen McGann shows
that she… can unearth new charm in age-old songs. McGann has a crystal-clear
voice with diction to match. Perhaps what sets her apart, though, is her
ability to target lyrics intelligently while allowing the rhythm of the
verse to look after itself. ‘The Beltane’ is one such, with the chorus,
even on its eighth repeat, still fueling new images.” Fred Redwood, The
Living Tradition Magazine
“What would you say to songwriting a la Stan Rogers allied to a voice of
like ilk to Mary Black?... Eileen’s voice has a stunning immediacy & power
that threatens to overwhelm the unwary listener with its sheer
exquisiteness.” Folk Roots Magazine
"This Calgary based singer songwriter has earned her place in the hallowed
halls of the Canadian folk scene. Her exquisite voice soars with every song
and takes us across the landscapes of Ireland, Scotland, Britain, and her
native Canada. Eileen's songs are a compelling exploration of the depths of
human compassion and courage. She has mastered the ability to draw us into
her songs, to make each of us participants in a universal drama." Vancouver
Folk Music Festival, 1995
"Her songs are Canadian to the core, merging traditional songs with her own
intelligent, graceful compositions... A special treat." --- Folk Roots
Magazine
