Subject: Les Barker 2/17 Berkeley House Concert

Hi All,

On Sunday, February 17th at 7:30PM, Les Barker will be performing a house
concert at my house in Berkeley! Simply put, Les Barker is one of the
funniest people there is - anywhere... It's great to have Les back for the
3rd time!

It's impossible to describe Les. There is *nobody* like him. How many
poet/songwriters do you know who have the audiences enthusiastically
chanting choruses about utterly absurd things??

A number of folks have already made reservations, but there is still room
for 11 people... I'm actually in Scotland at the moment, so it will likely
take up to 2 days for me to respond to any e-mails or phone calls (e-mails
much preferred!). However, please be assured that I will take reservations
in the order received...

A text copy of the concert flyer for my house is attached at the end of
this message.

For reservations, prepayment (to select seats ahead of time), & directions,
         e-mail reservations@sgreenberg.org
         or call me at 510-644-2135.
You can also prepay for concerts at
http://www.sgreenberg.org/concert_tickets.htm .

Further information, including html and PDF versions of the flyer, can also
be obtained from:
         http://www.sgreenberg.org/concerts.htm

Seats are also still available for all future concerts: Pete Coe (2/9),
Jez Lowe (2/24 - 3PM & 7:30PM), Ben Sands (4/21), Fil Campbell & Tom
McFarland (5/5), Pete Morton (5/19), William Pint & Felicia Dale (9/15),
William Jackson (10/6), Tom McConville (10/13), Dave Webber & Anni Fentiman
(10/26), David Francey (11/3), and Jim Malcolm (11/10).

Thanks for your continued support!

Sally

                 LES BARKER,
English songwriter/poet/punster extraordinaire,
                 will be performing at
                 a House Concert
                 in BERKELEY
         on Sunday, February 17th
                   at 7:30PM

English songwriter/poet/punster returns! Need a good laugh? Don't miss
this one!!! Q Magazine described Les as "The Lancashire equivalent of Tom
Leher… Scintillating daftness, absurdity run amok." They're right!
______________
"...he may be the best writer of parodies and wordplays that the
English-speaking world has ever heard." --- Tom Nelligan, Dirty Linen

"There are subtleties which you didn't notice the first time round, and
there are clever puns and turns of phrase so good you look forward to
hearing them again." --- Caroline Walker, Folk Roots

"Les Barker is the greatest comedy talent we possess....This is probably
the funniest tape I have ever heard. He's a master at exploiting the
idiosyncrasies of the English language, weaving in myth and history to
build bizarre stories." --- Agraman, City Life

"Les, long known as an inveterate punster who reads his improbable verse
monologues to increasingly hysterical audiences, wrote that serious and
attractive tale, 'The Stones of Callanish.' But it was the comic Barker
that then entertained this audience with his other new direction, the Mrs
Ackroyd Band." --- Barry Seddon, Manchester Evening News.

"'Mrs Ackroyd Explores her Roots' is not about national or regional
identity. Radio 2's gentle, modestly off-the-wall comedy is a
discovery...mild-mannered presenter Les Barker blends Edward Lear's
nonsense, Stanley Unwin's wordplay, the surreal inconsequentiality of
Reeves and Mortimer and the demotic robustness of Stanley Holloway
monologues." --- Martin Hoyle, Financial Times

"...his jokes, having slipped the surly bonds of earthly logic, go marching
on." --- Nick Beale, Folk Roots

"This man even sells his own underwear. He was a big hit at the Winnipeg
and Vancouver Folk Festivals in the summer with the Mrs Ackroyd Band. Now
he's tackling Canada all by himself." --- Steve Edge, Rogue Folk Club
______________
Admission: $15 Donation. All proceeds go to the performer. Reservations
required. For reservations, information, & directions: e-mail
reservations@sgreenberg.org or call 510-644-2135.
