[ba-filk-announce] Filk this Saturday (April 8)

Just a reminder that I'm hosting a filk sing in a couple of days.

And while I'm at it, here's the announcement again, for your
convenience.
(No changes, except I corrected the end time to "??am".)

Temporal coordinates: 2006-04-08T18:00:00-07:00

Time to admit it: We have a drinking problem!

The problem is that people are bringing a lot more soft drinks than
they consume. After my February filk I was left with 20 liters of
unopened soda -- that's after I dumped the partially consumed bottles
and took away all the stuff I thought I might drink myself and could
store (mostly the red drinks, as it happens). I probably bent the
rules by leaving them in the clubhouse, but it was that or throw
perfectly good unopened soda in the dumpster. The Irish believe you
can go to Hell for wasting too much beer in your life, but wasting
caffeine seems like the true sin to me. How can I waste soft drinks
when there are thirsty children in Africa?

I'd like to give the world a Coke

I figure there's a 75% chance that all or nearly all of it will still
be there on April 8, but either way, I figured there's going to be
too much unless I say something. So I'd like to discourage folks
from bringing soda, and if you do bring it, please be prepared to
take the unused portion away when you leave, or it will go to waste.
In fact, I'd like to encourage people to arrive with no soda and
leave with a couple of bottles!

Contributions of food are welcome but not required. Don't hesitate
to come empty-handed. And if you feel guilty about that, you can
always contribute a couple of dollars toward a pizza if we decide we
need one, or even toward the clubhouse rental fee if you insist. I'm
happy to cover it myself, but one person's share is about the same as
the price of a two-liter bottle of Coke, and given the choice, I'd
rather line my pockets than the dumpster.

				* Spatiotemporal details:

Directions: By car, take either 101 or 85 and get off on Moffett
Blvd. heading southwest, toward downtown (i.e. away from Moffett
Field). From Caltrain or LRT, get off at the Mountain View station
and walk 1.2km toward Moffett Field. (Getting back late at night is
another story.) In the unlikely event that anyone is planning to get
here under their own power (e.g., bike, foot, roller blade), Moffett
Blvd. is the one street that the Stevens Creek Trail crosses at grade
level; go south one block and turn left. Despite the official
address (500 W. Middlefield), the clubhouse is actually just off of
Moffett Blvd. Enter on the first driveway on Moffett that is north
of the Middlefield cross-street (and south of where 85 passes over)
and look for a raised glass structure just ahead of you and on your
left. (If you do enter from W. Middlefield, make two left turns.)
If you're arriving by spaceship (or looking at the Google satellite
image), it's the small tree-shaded popsicle-shaped building 29 meters
northwest of the pool.

Parking: You may park in any unnumbered space. (The numbered spots
are generally the covered ones.) However, Willow Park has added a
new rule. Guests are asked "to distribute the parking of their
vehicles to the areas between buildings 9 and 10, behind building 4,
and in front of building 26 to alleviate parking congestion in the
area between the clubhouse and building 1."

Saturday, April 8, 2006
6pm - ??am -- arrive anytime before 10pm
Willow Park Clubhouse
Moffett Bldv. & W. Middlefield Road

Hope to see many of you there!
