[As the sole remaining Bay Area publisher still dealing in filk-related
material, I'm shamelessly posting this pre-order announcement for our next
locally produced album.]
*** "TO TOUCH THE STARS" IS READY FOR PRE-ORDERING ***
"As someone who has actually set foot on the threshold
of space and experienced firsthand its majesty and the
incredible potential it holds for the human race, I am
thrilled by this new collection of original songs celebrating
the beginnings of our great endeavor to reach for the
stars."
-- Buzz Aldrin
(Apollo 11 astronaut)
"I am confident that music and songs -- perhaps from this
very album -- will make an impact on a future explorer
and inspire him or her to reach for the stars."
-- Brian Chase
(Executive Director,
National Space Society)
"If we are to win the hearts and souls of humanity to the
vision of a spacefaring future, the space exploration
movement must also develop its songs...it is my hope that
this album will begin a tradition whereby our most powerful
language -- music -- will help rally the souls of the present
to the cause of the future."
-- Dr. Robert Zubrin
(President, Mars Society;
Best-selling author of
"The Case for Mars")
I'm delighted to say that we are handing off this project to the
duplicators within 14 days; we're just waiting for project contributors
to provide any last-minute corrections to the album booklet.
If you don't already know about this project, it distills in filk
terms to:
- the pro-space filksongs you've known and loved from Minus Ten and
Counting and beyond, recorded professionally and passionately by folks
like Gunnar Madsen (founder of the Bobs), Julia Ecklar, Kristoph Klover
and Karen Linsley.
- new recordings by non-filk singer/songwriters of their pro-space
material, including Christine Lavin, Garry Novikoff, and Stan Clardy.
(Garry's track was guest-produced by Michael Moricz, whose credits
include the _Divine Intervention_ tape and CD.)
- an unbelievably cool 32-page, full-color booklet featuring all of
the lyrics, essays by space advocacy leaders Dr. Robert Zubrin and Brian
Chase, and more. Our designer, Richard Leeds, adapted the aesthetics of
coffee-table space books to present a photo-essay of space
history paralleling the songs.
Personally, I'd have paid $16 just for a copy of the album booklet
-- you truly have to see it to believe it. (Laser-printed copies available
for show if you're walking through downtown Mountain View any evening. ;-)
The formal promotional spiel is on
<http://www.prometheus-music.com/space.html>, and I'm not shameless enough
to post it here.

Umm...my studio apartment is way too small to even conceive of hosting
one.
I'll see if it's possible to find a suitable venue, but we may have to
punt this time. ;-[
