You're invited to the release party for our CD re-release of Julia
Ecklar's Divine Intervention album!
DID YOU SAY PARTY??!
--------------------
Yup. And in ALL-CAPS, too.
Where: 480 Castro St., San Francisco
(Apartment is above Walgreens, at corner of 18th and Castro)
When: Sat. December 7th, 2:00 PM
(When you arrive, please call 415.279.3720 for entrance
or ring the buzzer twice.)
A filk get-together doesn't happen often enough in the Bay Area. With
the Divine Intervention release as an excuse, you're all invited over to:
- Nosh on freshly prepared sushi while savoring the CD edition of Divine
Intervention.
- Hop on a waiting historic streetcar [$1 fare] at 7:15 PM for a journey
to Hyde Street Pier, where we'll climb inside a 100 year old vessel and sing
sea chanteys 'till we drop. (Bring a cushion and a mug for hot cider!)
*** Hyde St. Pier strongly requests your reservation by December 6th to
attend the Chantey sing. ***
THE DETAILS:
------------
* Getting Here:
- San Francisco -
We're less than one block from the Castro St. MUNI subway station; a
train comes by approximately 3-5 minutes by the K, L and M subway lines.
Exit the subway station using the right-hand exit. Then, walk down
Castro street until you see the first apartment door next to Walgreen's;
that's us.
- From the East Bay -
Take BART to Civic Center; then transfer to any K, L or M MUNI outbound
trains. Follow the San Francisco directions above.
- From Silicon Valley -
Drive to the Daly City BART station; ditch your car, and take BART to
the Civic Center station. Refer to the 'From the East Bay' instructions.
- "But...these are all public transit directions! I'm an American and I
want my car. How do I _drive_ there?" -
Sorry, I don't drive, and regrettably have no idea how you'd do that;
try MapQuest. Likewise, unless you know where to find hidden day-long
parking in this neighborhood, you'll probably have a slower and frustrating
trip, too.
* About the sea chantey sings
These are essentially well-attended, monthly chaos filksings held in a
historic vessel, with the requirement that songs:
- Have a chorus singable by everyone --- or so well-known that everyone
knows the verses anyway, like "Rolling down to Old Maui". It's not the venue
for a rarified solo performance.
- Be a maritime-themed work you could reasonably imagine sailors singing
(even if they'd have to be a bit drunk)
"Captain Jack and the Mermaid", "Yo Ho", or "Swing the Cat" would
probably be fine choices.
In case you end up wanting to skip the party and attend the sing, you
can find the Hyde St. Pier at <http://www.maritime.org/hours.htm>.
* About Divine Intervention
Oh, yeah. ;-]
We should have the CDs available for $17 (including CA sales tax). More
information at <http://mp3.com/ecklar>. You may also find Divine
Intervention t-shirts for sale.
There's a tiny chance that the CDs won't arrive in time, in which case
you'll have to settle for fondling the final digital proofs.
(Since another convenient party-chantey opportunity won't happen until
February, I opted for the December 7th date.)
Although Julia lives too far to attend personally, DI art director
Richard Leeds plans to drop by, as may other people involved with the CD
project.
